AN AMERICAN ENGINEER MET THE ISTIANS! (Lundi 11 Janvier 2010)

A very interesting new event happened at IST Antananarivo toward the end of the year 2009

Actually, Mr. Travis Slack, an American engineer, came to IST-T on 16^th December to make a presentation on the new US embassy compound that is being built at Andranomena, Antananarivo. The Amphitheatre B was surprisingly overcrowded with students (from all Departments) and teachers as it was the first time they had attended a presentation entirely conducted in English by an American and they were of course all curious about that building. Although it is not always obvious for Malagasy students to understand a presentation in American, Mr. Slack managed to make them understand his presentation which was illustrated with many pictures of the site and by asking them questions on Civil Engineering and Logistics from time to time. The students were able to answer all his questions and they also asked him many questions in English! Many questions were for example asked about the Malagasy workers and he said that the Malagasy workers were far better and more serious than the ones he had worked with in Rwanda and South Africa!

After the presentation, Mr. Fidy Raharijaona, educational advisor at the American Embassy, talked about studying in the United States. He left some booklets and invited those who were interested to come to the American Cultural Center for further information on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (afternoon) and Thursdays (morning).
